Is there a similar requirement in Windows 2000 for permissions on the winreg registry key? Which account requires Read permissions, Service or System? Or something else? ... Since Local Service doesn't exist in Win 2000 - thnx

Without the Local Service account the "SYSTEM" account may also be needed.
